Core Applications Project ¡V January 2006 Update

1          This is the 4th Update since we re-instated the Newsletter in October 2005.  Many NGO users have encouraged us to keep on this practice.  We urge you to give us your comments regarding the contents you would like to see.  Since we really want to make it some useful stuff for your benefits, we would try to follow your suggestions as much as feasible.  Please continue to show us your support.

Seminar on the Impact and Implications of New Hong Kong Financial Reporting Standards to Not-for-profit Organizations

2          The Seminar happened on 11 January 2006.  We saw a lot of friends there.  Time was limited for going through all the changes in details.  Yet most NGOs found it enlightening as it has pointed out the essential things to watch out for.  In case you need the presentation file for reference, it is available here: www.hkcss.org.hk/seminar/msl/nelson_lam20060111.pdf.

3          Many participating NGOs have shown positive comments to this Seminar.  In fact, many NGOs have indicated that they would need further assistance.  Responding to these requests, the Council is planning some follow-up workshops.  Detailed arrangement would be released by the end of February.  If you need further information urgently, please contact Shirley Kong (Tel. 2876 2402; email shirley.kong@hkcss.org.hk).

 User Group Meeting

4          We have had our User Group meeting on 24 January 2006.  As discussed in the meeting, it will be one of our important channels to communicate with our end users.  The meeting notes would be ready within the next week.  We will send it out to the participants and also post it onto our CAP Website for your reference.

5          We have administered a short survey about the User Group meeting.  The result would also be posted onto the Website with the meeting notes.  The major purpose of the survey is to collect users¡¦ views on how to make the meetings better.  You are welcome to give us your views whenever appropriate.  Meanwhile, the statistical part is as follows:-

6          To facilitate better planning, we have agreed the next 3 meetings to be held on 26 April, 26 July and 25 October 2006 respectively.  Please kindly mark your diary.  Reminder about meetings will be sent to key users 3 weeks prior to the meetings in the future.

Support Service for Batch I and Batch II

7          We reported in the User Group meeting that by the end of February 2006, the warranty period for Batch I and Batch II will expire.  Accordingly, the Council is exploring various options to recruit the necessary technical support.  Two obvious determining factors include the technical competence of the vendor and the cost of its service.  We have learned that NGOs would like to have a more transparent selection process, we are examining with our management on how to put this into practice.

8          From the operation point of view, users should not be concerned about this recruitment process.  ITRC is responsible for and we would ensure that the Helpdesk remains effective at your service.

10       We note a sluggish performance in terms of a net increase in the number of problems remaining unresolved, although in fact the problem-resolution rate still remains at a consistent 89%.  The management has been investigating this trench with a view to install feasible effective remedial actions.

11       Some NGOs have shown more concern about the status of their own log.  Your Account Manager would have provided you with the relevant details on a regular basis already.  If you have any doubt about this, please discuss with them directly.

End-users¡¦ Training

12       There were some hiccups in arranging the End-users¡¦ Training due to resources issue.  Nevertheless, the Council understands that the training is useful to NGOs and therefore we have decided to proceed as soon as possible.  We believe that the logistic issue would be cleared shortly and we are planning to deliver the first set of courses in late February/early March 2006.  Please watch out for our forthcoming announcements.

Batch III Progress

13       We regret that there are still some outstanding issues regarding the tendering procedure and thus the Batch III implementation work cannot proceed yet.  The Council and SWD are working hard on it, we would be able to see some progress real soon.

Chinese New Year Support Service Arrangement

14        Please note that during the Chinese New Year holiday, there would be some special arrangement for our Helpdesk service.  Please be reminded that it would switch to the pager mode starting from the afternoon of Friday, 27 January but the service would resume to normal in the morning of Wednesday, 1 February 2006.

15       Last but not least, we wish you a Happy and Prosperous Year of the Dog.

On behalf of my teammates
